Your Child’s Health Matters: Our Commitment to a Safe and Happy School Environment

At Applebee Montessori Academy, our children are the heart of everything we do. We know that when your child walks through our doors, you're placing your trust in us not just to educate, but to care for them like family. That’s why their health, safety, and well-being are our highest priorities.

In young children, illnesses can spread quickly. A little sniffle or upset tummy can sometimes turn into something more if we’re not careful.

That’s why we’ve put clear health guidelines in place not just as a set of rules, but as part of our promise to every parent: to create a clean, healthy, and nurturing space for your little ones to grow.

When Should You Keep Your Child Home?

We understand how important routine and consistency are for young children. But sometimes, staying home is the best way to rest, recover, and prevent germs from spreading to friends and teachers.

Here’s a simple guide to help you know when it’s best to keep your child home from school:

  1. Fever
If your child has an armpit temperature of 100°F or more, we ask that they stay home and rest. They’ll need to be fever-free for 24 hours without any medication before returning to school.
  2. Upset Tummy (Nausea, Vomiting, or Diarrhea)
We know how quickly little ones can bounce back but if they’ve had an upset stomach, please make sure they’ve been symptom-free for 24 hours without medicine before bringing them back to school.
  3. Pain or Swelling
Any unexplained pain or swelling can be a sign that something's not quite right. It’s best to check in with your pediatrician and keep your child home until they’re feeling better.
  4. Rashes with Fever
A rash can sometimes look harmless, but when paired with a fever, it could be contagious. Please have your child seen by a doctor and keep them home until they’re cleared to return.
  5. Scaly Patches on Skin or Scalp
Scaly or flaky skin could be something like ringworm, which spreads easily among children. If you notice anything unusual, please consult your doctor. We’ll need a note confirming your child is no longer contagious before they can come back.

A Gentle Reminder

To help us keep our routines smooth and safe for everyone, children must complete the full 24-hour symptom-free period.

Trusting Our Best Judgment

At times, even if your child’s symptoms don’t perfectly match the list above, our staff may still feel it’s in the best interest of your child or the classroom for them to stay home. We make these decisions with great care and compassion, always keeping your child’s well-being and the health of their classmates in mind.
